Mikel Laboa

Mikel Laboa Mantzizidor was born in Pasaia, 15th June 1934 and died in Donostia-San Sebastian, 1 december 2008. Was one of the Basque Country´s most important singer-songwriters.

Mikel Laboa in 1950 studied medicine psychiatry in Pamplona. But during his student years became interested by music, influenced by many important artists such as; Violeta Parra...
Laboa would likewise indentify himself as a "political artists".

During the 1960 he, along with other Basque artists, founded the cultural group Ez dok Hamairu. They dedicated their focus on the revival and social status of the Basques lenguage. Within this group Laboa into his own, emerging along with Benito Lertxundi as a prime example of what was called The new Basque music.
